Collin Cowgill missed a bunt during Saturday’s game against the Texas Rangers, taking the ball off his face that resulted in a broken nose and a trip to the disabled list. The Los Angeles Angels made the move Sunday, recalling infielder Grant Green to take his place on the active roster.

The incident took place during the 8th inning against Texas reliever Matt West. It was unclear if the ball bounced off Cowgill’s bat or if he’d missed it completely, but blood immediately began to pour out of his nose after the ball struck him. He cupped his hands over his face and proceeded directly into the Angels’ clubhouse where he’s receive stitches before heading to the hospital.

Cowgill had been hitting .277/.354/.407 on the year in 200 plate appearances, seeing time at all three outfield positions for the Angels. It has been a career-best season for the 28 year old.

This will be Green’s third stint with the team this season. He had just been optioned down to Triple-A last Tuesday. In 78 PA he’s hitting .324/.333/.419.
