Alex Rodriguez celebrating Yankees’ Wild Card berth is best thing you’ll see all day

The New York Yankees clinched a Wild Card berth on Friday, beating the Boston Red Sox and also picking up the organization’s 10,000th win. New York is the first team to reach the milestone, and within a week of the passing of Yogi Berra, the Yankees have secured a trip to the postseason that seemed quite improbable back in the spring. And as FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi notes, it’s the first time the Yankees have made the playoffs with a sub-90 win season since 2000, when they went on to beat the crosstown rival Mets in the World Series.

One player that was particularly happy in the postgame clubhouse celebration Friday was Alex Rodriguez. After missing all of 2014 serving a suspension, the 40-year-old has returned to post his best power numbers since 2008, regaining many of his lost fans and playing the hero role on a New York team that entered the season pegged to struggle.

Rodriguez has hit 33 home runs and 86 RBIs this season, hitting .252 with 22 doubles, 81 walks and four stolen bases. He was named one of three finalists for American League Comeback Player of the Year on Thursday, joining Prince Fielder and Kendrys Morales, and will likely finish in the top two with Fielder.

He had every reason to be excited, and shared some flattering photos of his excitement on Twitter Friday night.

The Yankees will wait and see whether they’ll face the Rangers, Astros, the Angels or the Twins in the Wild Card game, though the Rangers could potentially clinch the West on Friday night with a win or an Astros loss, making the Wild Card picture somewhat clearer.
