Pittsburgh Pirates outright Travis Snider, Travis Ishikawa, Deolis Guerra

The Pittsburgh Pirates made a handful of moves Friday, deciding to outright outfielder Travis Snider, first baseman Travis Ishikawa and right-hander Deolis Guerra, according to the team’s official transactions page. Snider and Ishikawa have opted to test free agency.

Both Snider and Ishikawa spent part of last season with Pittsburgh after beginning the season elsewhere. Snider, 27, began the season with the Baltimore Orioles, appearing in 69 games. He was then signed to a minor-league deal with the Pirates in August. He played just 18 games in a Pirates uniform, batting .192 with one home run and eight RBI.

After going hitless in five at-bats with the San Francisco, Ishikawa was designated for assignment and claimed by the Pirates. However, he too struggled at the plate, compiling a .224 batting average in 38 games. The 32-year old has been a journeyman throughout his career. The Pirates were his fifth team.

Guerra, 26, has been a part of minor league affiliates for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins and Pirates, but got his first taste in the majors this past season with Pittsburgh. He has also been playing in various foreign leagues during his career. With the Pirates in 2015, he went 2-0, but had a 6.48 ERA. In just 16.2 innings on the mound, Guerra allowed five home runs, but did average roughly one strikeout per inning.
