Here are 10 possible reasons for why the New York Yankees are holding a press conference regarding Alex Rodriguez.

The New York Yankees have made some big changes the last few weeks. For years, the Yankees were consistently in the running for the playoffs. They never rebuilt, they just re-loaded. If they needed to plug a hole here or there, they would get a veteran player to fill that gap, often by spending a ton of money in free agency. There were no youth movements in the Bronx.

This has started to change. Just before the trade deadline, the Yankees sent one of their three relief studs (Aroldis Chapman) to the Chicago Cubs for a bevy of prospects. Then they sent another one of the three (Andrew Miller) to the Cleveland Indians for another bounty of good, young players. To complete the exodus, the Yankees traded Carlos Beltran to the Rangers for more minor league players.

On Friday, the Yankees and Mark Teixeira held a press conference to announce that Teixeira is retiring after 14 years in the Major Leagues. It was a moving moment as Teixeira broke down while announcing his career would soon come to an end.

The most recent news from Yankees-land is that there will be a press conference regarding Alex Rodriguez on Sunday. At this point, that’s all we know, but we can speculate. As baseball fans, we love to speculate. How will this veteran pitcher do with diminished velocity? In Tim Lincecum’s case, not good, not good at all. Will Mike Trout win another MVP Award? Despite leading the league once again, probably not. Will Ichiro ever get his 3,000th hit? Sure, when the Marlins are safely back in Miami in front of their hometown fans.

With that in mind, I present the Top 10 Reasons the Yankees Have Announced There Will Be a Press Conference Regarding Alex Rodriguez:

  1. The Yankees have traded A-Rod to the Miami Marlins so he and Ichiro can be teammates when Ichiro gets his 3,000th hit and A-Rod hits his 700th homer.
  1. The Yankees have traded A-Rod to the Miami Marlins so he can work with Marlins’ hitting coach Barry Bonds in a match made in baseball heaven (or hell?)
  1. Alex Rodriguez has failed a drug test, but instead of a Performance Enhancing Substance, it’s for a Performing Diminishing Substance.
  1. The Yankees and A-Rod will announce that he is retiring at the end of this season and he would like retirement gifts from all of the cities the Yankees have played in so far this season. Send them to his 11,000-square-foot palace in Coral Gables that was featured in Architectural Digest.
  1. Alex Rodriguez is officially ready to endorse Donald Trump for president.
  1. The Yankees will announce that A-Rod is going to retire at the end of the season, but if he gets to 713 home runs before then, he must retire immediately.
  1. A-Rod will announce he is immediately retiring so he can play the love interest of Lorelai Gilmore in the upcoming Gilmore Girls mini-series.
  1. A-Rod will announce that he and Derek Jeter found some loose change in their couch cushions and plan to purchase the Tampa Bay Rays franchise.
  1. The Yankees have traded A-Rod to the Mariners, where he began his career and where the fans still love him. /s
