With Giancarlo Stanton out for the year, will the Miami Marlins bring in Alex Rodriguez to replace his offense?

The Miami Marlins lost slugger Giancarlo Stanton for the rest of the season.  Will this affect the chances of the Marlins going after recently retired slugger Alex Rodriguez?

Alex Rodriguez has had a forgettable season so far. His forced retirement and release by the Yankees has been well documented. After a season that showed Rodriguez returning stronger than many thought he would with the Yankees, expectations were high for this year.

Rodriguez struggled to find the Mendoza line and eventually had a forced retirement from the Yankees. While the slugger has had his own issues for sure, the club was less considerate in their own sendoff. With controversy and a media circus following every step of the way.

His last game was this past Friday, August 12th where he was allowed a short time at third base before leaving wearing Yankee pinstripes for the last time.

Stanton has had an up-and-down season at times striking out at what felt like every plate appearance and others carrying his team’s hitting long drives out of the park. He is a player that the Marlins have counted on, and now is lost for the season.

While Ichiro Suzuki is capable of filling in part of the time it is fair to wonder how much the forty-plus year old outfielder can do at this point in his career. The Marlins are going to need another right-handed power bat to help pick up the slack that Stanton leaves behind. Could that player be Alex Rodriguez?

There have been rumors floating around that the Marlins are indeed interested in the former Yankee. The obvious problem would be where could Alex Rodriguez play in the field? If the Marlins can get past that problem it may only come down to a dollar amount and how badly Rodriguez wants to change the tone of his retirement.

Alex Rodriguez is too good of a player to go out the way he did.  Alex Rodriguez is a player that needs a new outlook and a change of scenery. The Marlins could provide that as they are trying to make the postseason push down the stretch this season.

While there is also the issue of the media circus Rodriguez would bring, there is also the chance that he regains the form he found last season and produces for the Marlins when it matters most. If that is not the case and his career is indeed over what do either Rodriguez or the Marlins have to lose? The Marlins will not find a bat with his experience and potential anywhere else. On the flip side, he may not have another chance to come back into baseball and go out better than he did with the Yankees. If he fails with the Marlins as he did with the Yankees what has he lost?

The ball is in Miami Marlins court as they should reach a decision soon as to whether or not to pursue Rodriguez after losing Stanton. If the Marlins do indeed strike a deal with Alex Rodriguez rest assured we will hear plenty about it. Almost as much as we will of him  joining forces with hitting coach Barry Bonds.
