Marlins Trade For Nate Robertson

The Florida Marlins have acquired left handed starting pitcher Nate Robertson in exchange for minor league pitcher Jay Voss.  It is expected that the Tigers  will pick most of the $10MM that is due to Robertson this year. There was no longer room for Nate Robertson on the Detriot Tigers, as it was decided today that Dontrelle Willis will be the fifth starter over Nate Robertson.

Robertson, who was an original farmhand of the Marlin’s organization, struggled last year as he only started in six games for the tigers and went 2-3 with a 5.44 ERA while striking out 35 batters.

Jay Voss, who was the 8th round pick for the Florida Marlins in 2007, spent most of his time in double A last year, where he went 3-0 with a 2.97 ERA while striking out 36 batters. Voss, was ranked as the 23rd prospect in the Marlins organization by Baseball America,  and they project him to be a left handed specialist in the future.

"This is a move that I had been hoping for, in all honesty, but now that it’s here I find it a tad bittersweet. Robertson showed his mettle over the course of the past seven years, and that grit will be missed for sure…"
