The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed third baseman Shawn Bowman off waivers from the New York Mets.
Bowman, 25, hit .294/.346/.458 with Double-A Binghamton last season. He’s spent his entire career in the Mets system.
Mat Germain of Jays Journal had this to say about the move:
"“Nothing stands out to be above average with Bowman, but he could always hit his stride as a 25 year old. He had been projected to be a much better power hitter when he was drafted, but…was never able to get more than 400 ABs in any one season. He could get a shot at 3B in AAA…A nice and cheap grab that could turn out ok for the Jays and provides some depth at a very weak position for them.”"
That’s a pretty good summary. There’s nothing particularly interesting with Bowman: he’s a decent hitter and defender, but has always been old for his levels. I don’t see him evolving into much of a major league player, but you never know.
