Red Sox Claim RHP Santo Luis Off Waivers From White Sox

The Boston Red Sox have placed infielder Jed Lowrie on the 60-day disabled list and used the resulting free 40-man roster spot to claim minor league RHP Santo Luis off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.

Luis, 26, will be sent to Double-A Portland after striking out a whopping 79 batters in 56 innings at High-A Winston-Salem last year. He did, however, walk 23 batters and allow an ugly 11 home runs.

Luis is a power pitcher who stands 6’4″, but at 26 years old and just reaching Double-A, he’ll need to move quickly to have any sort of major league career. The fact that he was claimed on waivers means that the Red Sox see something in him.
