With this edition of roster moves published, I will be caught up. For the time being anyway. Lots of things going on this week which may cause a slight delay in my weekday schedule. Not the least of which is the major league draft.
AL Central:
The Kansas City Royals claimed RHP-Kanekoa Texeira (24) off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. RHP-Brad Thompson (28) was designated for assignment to open up the necessary roster spot.
AL East:
The Tampa Bay Rays placed SS-Jason Bartlett (30) on the 15-day disabled list. The move was made retroactive to May 30th.
AL West:
The Oakland Athletics claimed 3B-Adam Heether (28) off of waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. They also transferred RHP-Justin Duchscherer from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list. He underwent surgery on his left hip on Friday and is done for the season.
With Ken Griffey Jr’s recent retirement, the Seattle Mariners had an open roster spot so they called up RHP-Chad Cordero (28) from Tacoma. Cordero last pitched in the majors back in 2008 and his once promising career has been derailed by injuries. Looking to get back on track and stay healthy with Seattle, he appeared in two games over the weekend. In 2.0 innings he has allowed 2 H, 1 ER and 0 BB to go along with 2 SO.
NL Central:
RHP-Evan Englebrook (28) was outrighted to Round Rock by the Houston Astros after he cleared waivers.
On June 2nd, Ben Badler of Baseball America reported that the St Louis Cardinals agreed to terms with Dominican RHP-Carlos Matias (18) on a $1.5 million deal.
NL East:
The Philadelphia Phillies signed OF-Willy Taveras (28) to a minor league contract. They also outrighted RHP-Nelson Figueroa (36) to Lehigh Valley after he cleared waivers.
New York Mets 1B-Daniel Murphy (25) tore his MCL in a Triple-A game and will be out for 4-6 months.
NL West:
The Los Angeles Dodgers activated RHP-Charlie Haeger (26) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned RHP-Travis Schlichting (25) to Albuquerque.
