Here is the recap of moves made during June 7th, 2010.  Those involving Mike Sweeney, Jeff Suppan and Phillippe Aumont received a bit of extra special treatment.  In other news, the KC Ham Fighters softball team won tonight and improved our mark on the season to 4-2. Go Ham Fighters!

(moves after the jump)

AL Central:

The Cleveland Indians optioned 1B-Matt LaPorta (25) to Columbus and activated 1B-Andy Marte (26) from the 15-day disabled list.

AL East:

The Boston Red Sox placed RHP-Jonathan Papelbon (29) on the bereavement list so he could attend to a personal matter.  Boston also activated RHP-Boof Bonser (28) from the 15-day DL.

AL West:

The Texas Rangers placed RHP-Tanner Scheppers (23) on the minor league disabled list with a hamstring strain.

DH-Mike Sweeney (36) has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Seattle Mariners.  Unfortunately Sweeney has become all too familiar with the disabled list over the course of his career.  Once again it is his back, this time lower back inflammation, that has placed him on the shelf.  The move was made retroactive to June 3rd, but with Sweeney there is always a chance that his DL stay will be extended. In addition to the back problems, he has also been dealing with an Achilles tendon problem recently.  For me “Milk and Cookies” Mike falls into a large group of “what could have been” players.  As a Royals fan Sweeney sits at the right hand of Bo Jackson with Steve Busby and Jose Rosado also at the table.  Outside of the Royals, Mark Prior and Kerry Wood are also prominent card carrying members of the WCHB club.  With Sweeney on the DL, the Mariners called up 1B-Mike Carp (23) to take his spot on the roster.

NL Central:

RHP-Jeff Suppan (35) was released by the Milwaukee Brewers.  In the process of this move, the team will eat a large chunk of his $12.75 million 2010 salary.  Dead money walking!  In 31.0 innings for the Brewers, Suppan “contributed” a 7.84 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, and an 18/12 SO/BB ratio.  Despite the dreadful numbers, his track record and now major league minimum price tag make him an attractive gamble for a team in need of pitching and willing to take a risk.  With Suppan off Milwaukee’s roster, RHP-Chris Smith (29) was called up from Nashville.

NL East:

Not a lot has been going right for the Phildelphia Phillies and the struggles even extend into the minor leagues. At least they do in the case of RHP-Phillippe Aumont (21) who was demoted from Reading (AA) to Clearwater (High-A) after going 1-6 with a 7.43 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in his first 11 starts this season. Aumont, the Mariners 1st round pick in the 2007 draft, found his way to the Phillies by way of the Cliff Lee trade this offseason. The other two players traded to Phildelphia in the deal, OF-Tyson Gillies (21) and RHP-J.C. Ramirez (21) have encountered difficulties of their own in 2010, but nothing compared to what Aumont has experienced.

The New York Mets called up OF-Jesus Feliciano (31) from Buffalo.

NL West:

The Los Angeles Dodgers called up RHP-Jon Link (26) from Albuquerque.
