Roster Moves (6/8): Mike Stanton and Stephen Strasburg arrive
I woke up especially unmotivated this morning and the feeling has stuck with me the entire day. It sucks because I have a ton of article ideas lined up in my head but I just can’t seem to get my mojo synced up with my free time. On the bright side, the lack of motivation caused me to be incredibly productive at work. Funny how it works that way.
With no motivation and my creative juices at a standstill, you, my noble readers, are stuck with a recap of transactions made on June 8th. I hope you will forgive me and enjoy!
AL Central:
The Cleveland Indians designated 2B-Mark Grudzielanek (39) for assignment and called up 2B-Anderson Hernandez (27) from Columbus.
The Minnesota Twins placed 2B-Orlando Hudson (32) on the 15-day DL. The move was made retroactive to May 31st with a sort wrist as the reason. OF-Michael Cuddyer (31) was activated from the bereavement list. He had been away from the team since June 2nd to deal with the loss of his father-in-law.
After he was DFA’d by the Kansas City Royals on June 3rd, RHP-Brad Thompson (28) elected to become a free agent instead of reporting to Triple-A Omaha.
AL East:
No moves to report.
AL West:
The Oakland Athletics optioned RHP-Henry Rodriguez (23) to Sacremento and called up OF-Matt Carson (28).
NL Central:
The Milwaukee Brewers transferred RHP-LaTroy Hawkins (37) from the 15-day to 60-day DL. They also activated RHP-David Riske (33) from the 60-day DL.
The St. Louis Cardinals called up RHP-Noel Fernando Salas (25) and optioned RHP-P.J. Walters (25) to Memphis.
NL East:
The Florida Marlins called up top prospect OF-Mike Stanton (20) and he went 3-5 with 2 runs scored and a strike out in his major league debut.
The Washington Nationals designated C-Jamie Burke (38) for assignment and activated C-Ivan Rodriguez (38) from the 15-day disabled list. The return of Pudge happened to coincide with the promotion of phenom RHP-Stephen Strasburg (21). With Rodriguez behind the plate, Strasburg took the mound in his major league debut and actually managed to live up to the hype. His Game Score for said debut was an impressive 75.
NL West:
The Los Angeles Dodgers activated LHP-George Sherrill (33) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned RHP-Jon Link (26) to Albuquerque.
