Roster Moves (6/10): Jake Arrieta debuts, Ryan Perry DL’d

For the third day in a row, Roster Moves is “led” by the major league debut of another highly rated prospect.

In other news, I hope to finally catch up with all of these this weekend.  With a long list of things to do around the house and the need to put in some more hours at my “day” job my hopes may wind up being a bit unrealistic, but I’ll do my best.

(moves after the jump)

AL Central:

The Detroit Tigers called up RHP-Enrique Gonzalez (27) from Toledo.  The team also placed RHP-Ryan Perry (23) on the 15-day disabled list. The move was made retroactive to June 7th and was caused by shoulder tendinitis.

AL East:

The Baltimore Orioles called up RHP-Jake Arrieta (24) from Norfolk.  He joins the growing list of highly rated prospects to make their major league debuts in the last several days.  Arrieta went on to win his debut against the Yankees by pitching 6.0 innings of 4 hit, 3 run ball.  He struck out 6 and walked 4.  For those of you who care, Jake was born in Farmington, MO which makes him extra cool in my book.  To make room on the roster, LHP-Alberto Castillo (34) was designated for assignment.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed 2B-John McDonald (35) on the bereavement list and called up OF-Dewayne Wise (32) from Las Vegas.

AL West:

RHP-Jesus Colome (32) cleared waivers and elected to become a free agent.  He was DFA’d by the Seattle Mariners back on June 1st.

NL Central:

Cincinnati Reds minor league OF-Justin Reed was suspended 50 games after he was found to be in violation of the minor league drug program.  It was his second offense.  Reed, who was the Reds 4th round pick in the 2006 draft has struggled to hit minor league pitching. In 5 seasons he has a line of 0.229/.312/.343.

NL East:

No moves to report.

NL West:
