June 28th was a very light transaction day with just 6 teams involved in moves. A light day means a light report so lets get to it.
(moves after the jump)
AL Central:
No moves to report.
AL East:
The Boston Red Sox designated LHP-Fabio Castro (25) for assignment. RHP-Boof Bonser (28) cleared waivers and has elected to become a free agent.
AL West:
No moves to report.
NL Central:
The Houston Astros activated RHP-Bud Norris (25) from the 15-day disabled list.
The Cincinnati Reds released INF-Chris Burke (30).
NL East:
The Washington Nationals placed RHP-Tyler Walker (34) on the 15-day DL and called up RHP-Craig Stammen (26) from Syracuse.
The Atlanta Braves placed OF-Jason Heyward (20) on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 27th. The injury is a deep bone bruise and shouldn’t keep J-Hey out for very long. The ultra talented rookie has more than held his own this season hitting 0.251/.366/.455 with 11 HR and a 122 OPS+, but he hasn’t been the second coming that the hype would lead you to believe. Still he’s only 20 and looks to have a very bright future ahead of him. In a season filled with firsts it’s seems appropriate to get his first DL stint out of the way as well. Here’s hoping it the only such stint in a long and illustrious career.
NL West:
The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned RHP-Jon Link (26) to Albuquerque and activated RHP-Chad Billingsley (25) from the 15-day DL. The team also signed LHP-Jack Taschner (32) to a minor league contract.
