Let’s start off with the obvious. I’ve been slacking when it comes to writing and publishing original column length articles lately. In fact, outside of putting together our Picks of the Pen, Roster Moves and collaborative posts I’ve been downright lazy and unmotivated when it comes to my writing. That’s not to say I’ve been a bump on a log when it comes to my work for FanSided. I have been focused and productive with respect to my MLB Director duties during my writing slowdown, but I got involved with this network to write and clearly I haven’t been doing a very good job of that lately.
(more after the jump)
The last substantive Fishing Around column was published on July 9th.
It’s been too long.
The last substantive Draft Currents column hit the site back on May 21st.
Did I mention that it has been too long?
I could lay the blame at the feet of my personal muse but at this point she wants to kick my ass for being so unproductive. I think she’s been lifting weights and taking some form of karate so it’s time for me to get back into gear. Hey, I value my health and safety and when your muse gets beefed up and starts shooting you dirty looks, you …
Climb back into the saddle
Step back in the batters box
Pick up the pen
Insert any other relevant cliche here …
Glancing toward said muse, she seems a tad more pleased right now than she has been lately so apparently this is working. I just wish she’d wipe that smirk off her face. Honestly, it’s a bit disconcerting …
So here’s the deal. Starting Monday, I plan on getting back into a regular routine, but I now have a giant pile of potential column ideas hastily tossed into the corner. That’s where you come in (I hope). I’m going to toss out some potential column topics and let you, the readers of this site, decide what I write about on Monday. Whether this is your first time to Call to the Pen (or your 200th), now is your chance to help dictate what another human being does with a few simple clicks of your mouse. How fun is that?
Okay so let’s get on with it!
If you took the time to read all of the above (and vote in the poll) perhaps you will come a step further and “like” the Call to the Pen page on Facebook. I have Twitter Feed set up (when it is working) to automatically post our content to the page, but I also use Facebook to share some “behind the scenes” info about the site, our team of writers, and the successes, failures, and milestones we hit along the way.
In closing I hope you will listen and enjoy the song “Slacker” by the band Son of Dork. I just downloaded their CD and am thoroughly enjoying it. Based on all of the above, I thought the title of the song alone made it worth sharing this evening.
