Weaver Scratched with Illness

It turns out the only team that can deny Jered Weaver a win is his own.  The Los Angeles Angels scratched Weaver from his Sunday start against the Rays.  To the relief of Angels fans and fantasy owners alike, Weaver will only be pushed back one day due to a simple stomach virus.

I’m sure the Rays and their hitters were celebrating before the game; the scratch means that they’ve avoided facing the big right hander over this series.

Weaver has been unstoppable so far this season, racking up a record of 6-0 to go along with his miniscule 0.99 ERA.  The Angels starter has struck out 49 batters over 45.2 innings, allowing only 10 free passes over that span.

Even without their ace, the Angels were able to take the rubber match from the resurgent Rays Sunday.  While Weaver’s replacement Tyler Chatwood struggled, the Angels pen and offense carried the team to a 6-5 win.

Weaver and Los Angeles will continue their east coast trip Monday against Boston.  The major’s wins leader will try to collect his 7th victory against Clay Buchholz and the Red Sox.
