Hughes Receives Positive Report

The New York Yankees welcomed some good news Monday night involving their injured righty Phil Hughes. During the third inning of New York’s contest against the Tigers, the team announced that Hughes had received positive reports from a vascular specialist.

Tests showed that the Yankees starter is not suffering from thoracic outlet syndrome, a circulatory issue known to have caused several MLB players problems in the past.

The good news is that the Yankees can check this ailment off of their list. The issue remaining is that the team is still uncertain what has caused the dramatic drop off in Hughes’s velocity.

After starting the season 0-1 with a jaw dropping 13.94 ERA over his first three starts, Hughes was placed on the 15 day DL with what was termed ‘dead arm’. New York has put their starter through several tests and still there has been no definite answer to what is wrong with Hughes.

Part of the difficulty behind finding an explanation for the injury is not knowing its root cause, though there is speculation that Hughes is feeling the impact of an increased innings total from last year.

New York hopes it can soon discover the issue so they can get Hughes right and back in their rotation.
