An MRI test did not come back with the results Chris Young or the New York Mets had hoped.
The guy cannot catch a break.
Young was placed on the DL this weekend due to tightness in his shoulder. The Texas native has dealt with shoulder problems in the past, missing considerable time from prior injuries. Taking those experiences into consideration, Young believed that this time the damage to his throwing arm was not as severe.
You can see where this is going.
An MRI was performed and showed a tear in the big righty’s shoulder. The injury is said to resemble that of teammate Johan Santana, who was recently transferred to the team’s 60 day DL.
The club is saying that Young has not yet opted for surgery, perhaps hoping to try rehab to avoid a longer stay on the disabled list.
It does seem inevitable that at some point surgery will be necessary, and the odds of Young pitching for the Mets again this year are slim to none.
This news can’t be easy for a guy that was only able to log a combined 96 innings the past two seasons and who has had a promising start to the 2011 campaign.
