M’s Designate Bradley and Langerhans

The Seattle Mariners have removed two veterans from their roster to make room for a pair of youngsters.

Ryan Langerhans and mercurial outfielder Milton Bradley have been designated for assignment by the team to make room for outfielders Carlos Peguero and Mike Wilson.

Bradley maintained a batting average of .273 over his first 11 games of the year, but since then he’s gone dormant, hitting .175.  On the season, Bradley has a line of .218/.313/.356.  If this marks the end of Bradley’s stay in Seattle, the team will be eating around $9 million of his salary.

Monday marks the third time Langerhans has been designated by a team.  The outfielder has struggled all season after signing a minor league deal with the Mariners.  He has 9 hits in 52 ABs, leading to an embarrassing .173 batting average.

This will be Peguero’s second stint with the M’s this season.  The outfielder appeared in 5 games late last month, collecting 2 hits in 11 ABs.  In his first year at the AAA level, Peguero has seen limited success.  One alarming stat that jumps out at you though, 34 k’s in only 25 games.

Wilson has had a successful season for Tacoma, the Mariner’s AAA squad.  Over 16 games Wilson has managed a line of .381/.429/.683.  He’s shown flashes of power in the past, but the former 2nd round pick of the M’s is a bit old (27) for prospect status.

The Mariners and their new additions will begin a series with the struggling Orioles in Baltimore tonight.
