Roberts Remains Sidelined

facebooktwitterreddit

It’s been recommended that Brian Roberts sit out at least another two weeks before resuming baseball related activities.  The second baseman met with a specialist yesterday in Pittsburgh, where he received the suggestion.

I’m sure it seemed like a bad case of déjà vu for O’s fans.  On May 24th Roberts received a similar recommendation.

Baltimore is still holding out hope that Roberts could return to the team before the July 11th All-Star break.

Roberts hasn’t played since May 16th, when he dove into first base.  The O’s hoped to place Roberts on the newly created 7 day concussion disabled list, but it appears the two time All-Star could miss as many as two months now.

The 33 year old wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire before his injury (.221/.273/.331), but the O’s depend on Roberts to be their table-setter.

Baltimore signed Roberts to a 4 year/$40 million extension before the 2010 season.  From 2004 up to the time of the contract, the second baseman had played at least 138 games a season.

Roberts was forced to miss significant time in 2010 and was only able to see action in 59 contests.  It appears to be more of the same for Roberts and the Orioles in 2011.
