Yankees Place Colon on DL

It’s now official, Yankees starter Bartolo Colon has been placed on the 15 day disabled list with a strained hamstring. Colon was removed last night after logging 6.2 shutout innings against the Cleveland Indians.

Colon admitted he was feeling better Sunday but knew he would ultimately end up on the DL after his removal last night.

The 38 year old vowed to be ready to return after the minimum requirement of 15 days. I will believe that when I see it. Again, the guy is nearing 40 and is pushing 270 pounds. Rehab will not come as easy as it does a younger player or one in better physical condition.

New York has replaced the right hander with pitcher Hector Noesi. Noesi is a candidate to fill in for Colon and start Thursday’s game, but manager Joe Girardi has made nothing official.

Colon has provided the Yankees with much more than expected when they signed him to a minor league deal this January. He’s been able to maintain a 3.10 ERA over 10 starts, his WHIP checking it at an impressive 1.07. Colon has a struck out 8.27 per 9 innings and ranks 8th in the league with a SO/BB ratio of 4.00.
