It’s official, the Panda’s back.
San Francisco has activated third baseman Pablo Sandoval from the 15 day disabled list. To make room for the slugger, the Giants have optioned Conor Gillaspie. Sandoval is expected to return to the Giant’s lineup Tuesday when they begin their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Sandoval has been out since the end of April with a broken wrist. He took a line of a .313/.374/.530 with him to the disabled list.
There was some news early last week that indicated Sandoval may see some action behind the plate as the season continues. Giants manager Bruce Bochy was very vague on the topic then, and now the only other position he is mentioning is first. Sandoval would continue to see most of his action at the hot corner, but could occasionally spell first baseman Aubrey Huff as needed.
Sandoval was only one of the many Giants hitters on the disabled list. Even with the plague of injuries the club has endured, San Fran has been able to remain atop the NL West with a record of 37-29.
