Beckett Likely to Miss Saturday Start

The flu bug has hit Boston and more specifically Josh Beckett.

The starter was scratched Tuesday due to “intestinal turmoil”, and it’s looking more and more likely that he will also be missing Saturday’s start because of the virus.

"“He’s really sick,” Francona said Wednesday. “Doctors are trying to figure it out. I have not seen him this morning. He wasn’t good yesterday and we’re going to have to play this one by ear. There are some pitchers, because of the off-day, that we’re actually OK.”"

If Beckett is unable to take the mound Saturday against the Pirates, lefty Andrew Miller will likely fill in for the Red Sox.

Miller made his debut with Boston Monday night and was able to scatter 7 hits over 5.2 innings.  The 26 year old allowed 3 earned runs, all coming on an Orlando Hudson long ball.  Miller took the no decision, but the Sox did go on to defeat the Padres 14-5.
