A’s Place Willingham on DL

The Oakland A’s have placed outfielder Josh Willingham on the team’s 15 day disabled list.  The 32 year old has been dealing with an Achilles injury that’s kept him out of the A’s lineup since last Friday.

While an A’s offense that has been one of the worst in the league will certainly miss Willingham’s bat, the injury may hurt the club more on the trade front.  Willingham is seen as one of the more available right handed options for contenders across the league.

The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies have both apparently checked in with the A’s about Willingham.  Some out there are even saying that the outfielder is the only player Oakland has that other teams should be interested in.

Willingham is only sporting a batting average of .231, but he has still managed to lead the club in home runs (10) and runs batted in (42).  He is the only player on the A’s with more than 150 at bats who has maintained an OPS over .700.

To replace Willingham on their roster, Oakland has called up Chris Carter.
