Mets Wright Could Return in Three Weeks

The baseball gods wanted to mix things up a little bit and give the New York Mets a little love.  The team actually received some good news yesterday, third baseman David Wright got some positive reports and appears to be with three weeks of rejoining the club.

The 28 year old underwent a CT scan yesterday that showed results good enough for team doctors to deem Wright ready for “full exercise activity”.

GM Sandy Alderson noted that this is only the first step.  After Wright is back in playing shape he will be sent out for some minor league rehab action.  Alderson said that while this is still seen as a several week process, the team is considering it good news because Wright can now begin his journey back to Citi Field.

Wright has been out since the middle of May after fracturing his lower back.  He sustained the injury during an April 19th contest against the Astros when he attempted to place a diving tag on Houston outfielder Carlos Lee.

New York believes the injury can explain Wright’s subpar 2011.  Before his stint on the DL, the third baseman was only able to hold a line of .226/.337/.404.

In place of Wright, the Mets have been using a combination of Justin Turner and Dan Murphy to man the hot corner.
