Pirates Place Tabata on DL

After being carted off the field Sunday, Pirates left fielder Jose Tabata has been placed on the 15 day disabled list with a strained quad.

Pittsburgh diagnosed the injury Sunday, as Tabata made it evident that it was his right quad that was the issue when he collapsed on the field.  Word hasn’t yet been released explaining the severity of the strain or how long the 22 year old will be sidelined, but the Pirates became confident enough that Tabata would be out at least two weeks to make the roster move.

Tabata’s replacement was already called up Monday, before Pittsburgh made his DL move official.  The club called up Alex Presley from Triple-A and have him batting leadoff tonight against the Blue Jays.

Presley forced his way onto the roster even before the injury, and should get a good look with Tabata on the DL.

To fill out their roster, Pittsburgh recalled recently optioned infielder Josh Harrison.
