Albert Pujols Showing ‘Significant Improvement’; Could Return After Break

It looks like he even heals like a machine.

Cardinals’ first baseman Albert Pujols’ fractured wrist has shown significant improvement of late and the slugger may return to the team sooner than expected.

Pujols fractured his wrist during a June 19th contest against the Kansas City Royals.  Originally, team doctors expected the three-time MVP to miss 4-6 weeks.

However, after a Friday CT scan showed improvement, Pujols may be cleared to resume baseball related activities as soon as Monday when he will be reexamined in St. Louis.  This would set up Pujols for a return during the Cardinals’ first series after the All-Star break.

"“I don’t want to get into speculation,” manager Tony La Russa said. “I’m just glad there is a lot of good news on that front.  When I looked at four to six weeks that was not after the All-Star break.  It looks like we’re going to get him back sooner than that.  I just know he’s making progress. That’s encouraging, and that’s enough.”"

St. Louis has been told that best case scenario Pujols could be back with the club later this week during their series with the Diamondbacks, but the team doesn’t want to rush him and is likely to take advantage of the All-Star break.  The Cardinals are 5-5 in Pujols’ absence.
