Jeff Manship was probably just looking to come off the DL and get the feel of a live game back in his arm. Then when he left the game after pitching four no-hit innings he likely felt pretty good about himself. The team in turn continued to feel good about itself as three relief pitchers followed Manship by no-hitting the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Wednesday night. It was the 21st no-hitter for the Rochester RedWings, which is an International League high.
Both AAA teams are full of familiar faces as Lehigh fielded such known players as Jeff Larish, Josh Barfield, Pete Orr, and Delwyn Young (who hit a MONSTER homer the other night), while Rochester had Delmon Young and Toby Gardenhire, whose dad coaches Rochester’s big league affiliate the Minnesota Twins, in the field.
Here is how each Rochester pitcher faired:
- Manship– 4 IP 0 H 2 BB 4 K
- Stevens (W)- 3 IP 0 H 1 BB 4 K
- Waldrop– 1 IP 0 H 0 BB 0 K
- Hoey– 1 IP 0 H 0 BB 0 K
BTW almost more impressive than the no-hitter is that mustache on Hoey!
