The Florida Marlins have acquired Mike Cameron and cash from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Boston designated Cameron last Thursday after his tough season with the club. The 38 year old was only able to put up a line of .149/.212/.266 over his 33 games with the Red Sox, striking out 25 times.
Despite his struggles in Beantown, Florida coveted Cameron for his veteran presence and ability to move around the outfield.
"“We talked about adding a veteran here, a guy who can play all three outfield positions, has a little bit of power,” Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said. “[Interim manager] Jack [McKeon] knows him well from his days in Cincinnati. Loved him, high character guy, great teammate, all of the reports are positive.”"
No roster move has been made as Cameron has yet to join the club. When he does, he is expected to play a bench role and provide the Marlins’ regular outfielders Logan Morrison, Bryan Peterson and Mike Stanton days off here and there.
