Fausto Carmona Set for Monday Return

Fausto Carmona will return to the mound for the Indians in the night cap of today’s double header against Minnesota.

Carmona last appeared in a July 2nd contest against the Reds.  The right hander had to be removed from that game after taking an awkward spill while running the bases.  The All-Star break allowed Carmona to miss only a single start.

After laying down what ended up being a poor sacrifice bunt, Carmona hustled down the line to try and avoid the double play.  He ended up tripping over his own feet before reaching the bag, straining his right quad in the process.

Normally the return would be huge news for the Tribe as they begin a pivotal series against the rival Twins.  But Carmona’s impact on the year has generally been of the negative variety.

Over his 18 starts this season, Carmona’s held an ERA and WHIP of 5.78 and 1.41 while compiling a record of 4-10.  The 27 year old has not managed a monthly earned run average south of 5 this season, and June was the ugliest of them all as Carmona lost 4 of 5 of his starts while allowing 24 runs in 26 innings of work.
