Brian McCann Hits DL with Strained Oblique

The Braves have placed All-Star catcher Brian McCann on the 15 day disabled list with a strained left oblique.

McCann sustained the injury during the madness that was last night’s 19 inning affair in Atlanta.  The 27 year old backstop sailed a throw over second base when trying to gun down Neil Walker in the 10th inning.  After the errant toss, McCann grabbed at his lower back.  He then went on to meet with coaches and trainers before testing the back and ultimately leaving the game.

McCann was replaced by backup catcher David Ross.  Even though Ross has had a solid year, he knows that McCann has been a huge part of the Braves’ success this season.

"“It’s big, man. It’s big. He’s our MVP this year so far,” Ross said. “I know he has faith in me, and I’m going to hold down the fort as best I can until he gets back. Let him recover, because we’re going to need him.”"

McCann certainly has been the team’s MVP, not only for his efforts with the bat (.306/.375/.514 with 18 home runs and 55 RBI’s), but for catching one of the league’s best pitching staffs.

To replace McCann on their roster, the Braves have called up Triple-A catcher J.C. Boscan.
