Alex Rodriguez Facing Possible Suspension

A source from MLB has told ESPNNewYork.com that Yankees’ shortstop Alex Rodriguez could be facing a suspension for his reported involvement in an illegal high-stakes poker ring.

This morning it was reported that Rodriguez was involved “in an underground, illegal poker game where cocaine was openly used, and even organized his own high-stakes game, which ended with thugs threatening players”.

While these reports are coming from a tabloid magazine, Major League Baseball is not taking the situation any less seriously.

"“We’re talking to people involved in the investigation and we’re taking this very seriously,” said an MLB executive. “Because he had been warned about this before, I would say a possible suspension would be very much in play.”"

An insider is stating that Rodriguez participated in at least two poker games and hosted a high-stakes event in Miami back in 2009 which ended after card sharks apparently called in thugs to intimidate players so others could leave without paying their debts.

And of course A-Rod couldn’t escape a scandalous story without being tied to an attractive woman.  Molly Bloom is said to have helped Rodriguez organize his poker shindig and later claimed to have a “steamy affair” with the slugger.

Major League Baseball has yet to confirm reports or determine if Rodriguez was involved in the alleged games but one thing’s for sure, the commissioner’s office is tired of A-Rod’s off the field antics.

"“Bud’s totally fed up with him,” said a baseball insider. “It’s like there’s something new with him every day and it’s impossible to keep up with it.”"

Rodriguez has already gone through a very public divorce and has since coupled with multiple party girl celebrities.  His latest fling has been with actress Cameron Diaz.

But the biggest concern of MLB is Rodriguez’s connection to Dr. Anthony Galea who’s been charged with smuggling HGH into the US.  A-Rod was treated by Galea, and his relationship with the physician has tainted the slugger in the eyes of many.

I think the statement of one MLB executive sums up Rodriguez pretty well.

"“You get the feeling that Alex says what he thinks he needs to say to get by, and then goes out and does what he wants.”"
