Carlos Gonzalez is hoping to return for the Rockies as soon as this weekend. The left fielder has been out since July 21st because of his injured right wrist.
After taking batting practice Monday night at Coors Field, the 25 year old said that he’s feeling good and is progressing faster than he originally expected.
Gonzalez’s injury problems stem from a game in early July in which he went wrist-first into the center field wall. The collision caused him to miss several days and after returning, Gonzalez went on to reaggravate the wrist on the 21st when he extended a tendon while fouling a pitch off.
After taking some time off and undergoing rehab treatment, Gonzalez is ready for live action as he’s now set for a short minor league assignment. Gonzalez is scheduled to play 7 innings tonight before going 9 innings in consecutive games to show he is ready to return to Colorado. Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post is reporting that Gonzalez should be back with the Rockies this Saturday.
On the season, last year’s Silver Slugger posted a line of .289/.358/.491 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI’s. Gonzalez rebounded after a slow start for a productive May, and then went out to break out in June. During the month, CarGo posted an OPS of .956.
