After being scratched from his last minor league rehab start, Mets starter Johan Santana found that the discomfort in his throwing arm is due to shoulder fatigue and not another serious injury.
Santana received the diagnosis Thursday after being examined at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. The left hander will now be able to resume his rehab assignment after recovering from the fatigue.
Mets fans had been holding their breath regarding the situation because the discomfort Santana had been experiencing was in the same shoulder that was operated on last September.
But the results were positive and Santana will be able to jump back on the road to recovery. While he’s now less likely to make his return for the Mets this September, the setback was a minor one and will not cause Santana to miss more significant time which has to be considered good news at this point.
Santana will stay with the Mets next week in New York before resuming his time in the minors. This allows him to once again be eligible for the full 30-day rehab period.
