Baseball took a scary turn tonight in Colorado during the Rockies contest versus the Nationals.  In the second inning of the game, Rockies pitcher Juan Nicasio took a line drive comebacker to the head and had to be carted off of the field.

After scoring two runs in the first off of Nicasio, the Nationals sent Ian Desmond to the plate.  The shortstop took strike one looking before sending the next pitch right back at Nicasio who was unable to avoid the comebacker.

The ball hit Nicasio on the right side of his face and he immediately collapsed on the mound, where he remained for several minutes before team trainers and personnel were able to get the pitcher onto a stretcher.  Nicasio was ultimately carted off the field after having his neck stabilized.

2011 is Nicasio’s first season with the Rockies.  Over his 12 starts prior to Friday night, the 24 year old posted a record of 4-3 with a 3.95 ERA and WHIP of 1.231.
