Logan Morrison Demoted to Minors
In a surprising turn of events, the Florida Marlins have demoted outfielder Logan Morrison following last night’s shutout loss to the Giants.
Morrison couldn’t believe the move and still doesn’t exactly understand the reason it’s happened.
“I was about to get treatment on my knee and my arm that I just left on the warning track, but I got called into the office right there,” Morrison said. “I had no idea what it was. They said, ‘We exercised the right to option you to Triple-A,’ and I walked out.”
The 23 year old came up as a top prospect with Florida and is seen as a major part of the Marlins’ future. In his second season with the Marlins Morrison has struggled a bit at the plate, but hardly enough to warrant a demotion. This year Morrison has hit at a clip of .249/.327/.464 with 17 home runs and 60 RBI’s.
Morrison told reporters that he wasn’t given a real reason for his demotion. When he asked the club why they were making the move, the only response he got was, ‘what are you hitting, .240?’.
There is almost certainly something else going on here, and while Morrison sounded like he had ideas about what it could be, he will hold off on making anything public until speaking with his agent.
Regardless, LoMo is certainly unhappy with the decision and this whole situation could seriously impact his desire to remain a member of the Marlins.
“All I know is I go out and I give everything for this team,” Morrison said. “I play hurt, I play through injury, and this is how you get treated. It doesn’t seem very fair or right to me.”
