The player to be named later in the deal that sent Hunter Pence to the Phillies now has a name, and it is Domingo Santana. Santana is joining the Astros as the final piece of the July trade.
Originally the agreement had three Phillies’ prospects heading to Houston; Jarred Cosart, Jonathan Singleton and Josh Zeid, along with a PTBNL. The Astros have selected Santana to complete the deal.
So far this season, the 19 year old Santana has hit .269/.345/.434 for the Phillies Class A squad. He checked in as the team’s 9th best prospect entering this season according to Baseball America.
The announcement means that, along with Singleton and Cozart, the Astros received three of the Phillies top 10 prospects for Pence.
Many thought Houston received solid return for Pence when the deal was originally announced, and the addition of Santana would only seem to boost the value they received for their outfielder.
As for the Phillies, while they did surrender talent to acquire Pence, he’s been great since arriving in the City of Brotherly Love. Pence has hit in all but 2 of his 14 games with the Phils, with 3 home runs and 10 RBI’s, and the club is 12-2 since adding him to their lineup.
