Alex Rodriguez Returns; Not Immediately Activated

After Alex Rodriguez said he felt “a little tentative, a little hesitant” during last night’s rehab game with the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, the club has announced it may hold off on activating him today.

Rodriguez started his minor league assignment last Friday, aiming to get some time at the plate and in the field under his belt before returning Thursday for New York’s series opener against the Twins.

While he was able to play 8 innings last night, going 1-2 with a pair of walks, Rodriguez notified his team that he wasn’t running all out and actually told reporters that it’s pretty clear he isn’t going to play today.  He wouldn’t confirm that he would even be able to go on Friday.

New York will still have A-Rod join the club in Minnesota before making a decision on him.

"“Our plans right now are still to bring him to Minnesota tomorrow if everything goes OK,” Girardi said. “We may not activate him. We may just have him go through some things for a couple of days, then wait a couple of days to activate him.”"

All along, the Yankees have admitted that they don’t want to rush Rodriguez as he recovers from a torn meniscus.  The whole idea of undergoing in-season surgery was so that he could return healthy for their playoff run.
