Jair Jurrjens Activated

San Francisco didn’t give Braves starter Jair Jurrjens the warmest of welcomes last night.  The right hander was activated before Wednesday’s game to take the mound against the Giants.

Jurrjens surrendered 5 runs on 8 hits in his first start since hitting the disabled list in the beginning of August.  The 25 year old logged 6 innings while recording only a single strike out.

"“I was just leaving some pitches up and my changeup wasn’t doing anything,” Jurrjens said. “I was a little rusty. I hadn’t faced a live hitter for a couple days. That might have did that. But there’s no excuses. I just didn’t make my adjustments when I needed to make my adjustments.”"

Jurrjens landed on the DL with discomfort in his right knee.  It was the same knee that he had operated on at the end of last season to repair a torn meniscus.

It’s been a tale of two halves for Jurrjens, who was ridiculously dominant to start the year and through the All-Star break, but has struggled since.

Jurrjens carried a 1.87 ERA into the break.  He’s now witnessed that mark climb to 2.84 over his last 5 starts, giving up 21 earned runs in 29 innings over that stretch.  His second half efforts are good for a whopping 6.52 ERA.
