Cole Hamels Activated for Monday Start

Cole Hamels has been activated from the disabled list and will take the hill for the Philadelphia Phillies tonight when they face the Reds tonight in Cincinnati.  Hamels has been out since August 12th while dealing with shoulder inflammation.

After losing velocity over his last several starts, Philadelphia decided to have Hamels undergo an MRI.  The inflammation was discovered and the Phillies decided to rest Hamels, hoping to get him back to top form for their playoff run.

Hamels has experienced another successful year as a member of Major’s best rotation, going 13-7 with a 2.62 ERA and 0.99 WHIP.  When the injury was discovered, Hamels was in the top 10 in the National League in strikeouts and innings pitched.

Philadelphia is back in action tonight after a long layoff.  The Phillies haven’t played since they lost to the Marlins Friday night thanks to the effects of Hurricane Irene.

While the club may have enjoyed its weekend off, their upcoming schedule has taken a hit.  Philadelphia is now set to play 33 games over the next 31 days.

It’s certainly going to be a busy end of the season, but the Phillies have built enough of a lead in the NL East and have the rotation depth to allow their regulars some rest during the home stretch.
