Alex Rodriguez left the New York Yankees yesterday to undergo an MRI on his sore left thumb. Rodriguez is being listed as day-to-day and it’s not known if he’ll be available for the Yankees upcoming series against the Boston Red Sox.
Rodriguez originally injured the thumb on the 21st of August, the day he returned from his lengthy stay on the disabled list.  Rodriguez sustained the injury while lunging for a hard hit ball off the bat of Joe Mauer. After knocking the ball down, Rodriguez was in noticeable pain as he took off his glove and started shaking his hand.
While he missed a few games, Rodriguez was able to return to action last Thursday. Now, Rodriguez is again stuck on the sideline after aggravating the thumb during the first game of Sunday’s double header in Baltimore.
Rodriguez left the team yesterday and returned to New York to undergo an MRI exam. Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi isn’t sure if Rodriguez will play in any of the team’s 3 games in Boston. Since Rodriguez has already aggravated the injury, New York is likely to play it a little safer and allow the thumb more time to heal.
Rodriguez has only played in 4 games since returning from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. On the year, Rodriguez has hit at a clip of .289/.361/.478 with 14 home runs and 53 RBI’s.
