Bryce Harper Begins Rehabbing Injured Hamstring

Bryce Harper tested his hamstring for the first time yesterday since hitting the disabled list, taking part in a few running and throwing exercises.

Harper was placed on the 7 day DL August 19th after he strained his right hamstring the night before.  During the 8th inning of that game, Harper attempted to go from first to third.  The 18 year old pulled up on his way around the bases and had to be helped off the field.

Harper was once again selected to the Arizona Fall League, and his ultimate goal is to be ready to go when the league kicks off in early October.  Last year Harper was a taxi squad player, and thus only eligible to play on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

But now, in his second season with the Scottsdale Scorpions, Harper will be eligible to play every day.

Washington originally expected Harper to be out for the remainder of the Minor League season, instead opting for him to focus on the AFL and offseason while working his way back.  But now there’s an outside shot that Harper could be ready for the Double-A Senators during the postseason.

While Washington understands and even encourages the level of competition in Harper that would make him want to get back to his teammates, the club is certainly going to be careful with their top prospect.
