The Texas Rangers have finalized their roster for the first round of the 2011 playoffs. The Rangers decided to enter the ALDS with 11 pitchers and 14 position players.
Instead of an extra bullpen arm, Rangers manager Ron Washington added a third catcher, Matt Treanor, to his playoff roster. Texas’s use of backstops Yorvit Torrealba and Mike Napoli in the same lineup made Treanor’s addition necessary.
Beyond their trio of catchers, the Rangers position players include infielders Mitch Moreland, Ian Kinsler, Adrian Beltre, Michael Young, Elvis Andrus and Esteban German. In the outfield, the Rangers will have Nelson Cruz, Josh Hamilton, David Murphy, Endy Chavez and Craig Gentry.
Texas decided to use pitcher Alexi Ogando out of the bullpen earlier this week, but the club also announced today that Scott Feldman would their long reliever during the playoffs. Starting pitchers on the Rangers playoff roster include game one starter C.J. Wilson, Derek Holland, Matt Harrison and Colby Lewis.
Joining Ogando and Feldman in the pen will be Mike Adams, Koji Uehara, Darren Oliver, Mike Gonzalez and Neftali Feliz.
The Rays and Rangers begin their series this evening at 5:07 p.m.
