C.J. Wilson Expects to Re-Sign with Rangers

With C.C. Sabathia officially off the market, C.J. Wilson is the top starting pitcher in the 2012 free agent class.  But, like Sabathia, Wilson doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to leave his current club.  In an interview with scoreboarddaily.com, Wilson calls the chances of him returning to the Rangers in 2012 “great”.

Based on his comments, winning will play a large role in Wilson’s decision on which team he signs his next contract with.  Wilson said that he likes it in Texas because he’s been able to win with the Rangers.

Though people talk of how difficult it is to pitch in Arlington, Wilson proved that he “can be a good pitcher” in Texas.  He also says that he and the pitchers around him were able to go out and win “a bunch of games” and “did stuff that no other organization” did.

Wilson gushed about his surrounding cast throughout the interview.  Talking about his future with the club, Wilson said that the Rangers will want him to know “what they’re planning on doing with all of” his teammates “in the long term”.  Included in ‘his teammates’, Wilson named Elvis Andrus, Nelson Cruz, Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler, stating the Rangers have several guys that “have contractual things that are coming up”.

Going back to the impact of continued success, Wilson said that he’ll enter talks with the Rangers hoping the club can give him confidence that they are “going to keep winning”.  Based on his comments, it seems like Wilson would be quick to return to Texas if his hopes and ideas for the future are in line with those of the Rangers.
