Sprouts: Fantasy Rundown, Minor League FA, Red Sox Draft and Catchers

Well it’s Monday night. Another work week is underway – but 20% completed – and the Vikings are predictably losing by three scores against the Packers as I write this. The Arizona Fall League is in the home stretch and teams are starting to lock up free agents as they start to shape their 2012 rosters. In addition to all of that, team specific top-10, top-15 and even top-50 prospect lists are coming out faster than I can read them these days.

Fortunately there is a site that can help you keep track of all the prospect ranking madness and it’s there that we kick off this week’s edition of Sprouts. I’m talking about Fantasy Rundown, a wonderful site that collects, recaps and provides links to all kinds of baseball and football content. In the spirit of full disclosure, they are also one of our top traffic referral sites, but I’d be linking to Goose’s wonderful resource even if that wasn’t the case.

Specifically I want to direct you to Fantasy Rundown’s 2012 MLB Prospect Rankings Page where you will find a constantly updated, well organized list of each site’s rankings including the Seedlings to Stars Top-100 (shameless self promotional plug accomplished!).

Fantasy Rundown has been an indispensable resource for me so if the site isn’t already a part of your daily regimen, I highly recommend you add it. After you read Seedlings to Stars of course!

Packers scored again as I was writing about Fantasy Rundown … it’s now 24-0

Anyway, back to baseball and far less depressing topics, a wonderful article was published over on Phuture Phillies today that highlights some of the more intriguing minor league free agents available. One of the players identified was one of my personal favorites, 2B Yangervis Solarte who I’m praying the Twins manage to resign.

Thanks to a fumbled punt the Vikings just score via an AP TD and it’s now 24-7! Shutout crisis/humiliation averted …

Next we shift back inside the comfy confines of FanSided MLB. Over on BoSox Injection, Staff Writer Ryan Hannable provides some thoughts on Boston’s early round picks from the 2011 draft.

The guy I’m most interested from this group is South Carolina OF Jackie Bradley Jr. who slipped out of the 1st round thanks in large part to an injury plagued junior season with the Gamecocks. C Blake Swihart is another intriguing guy to keep tabs on in the next couple of seasons.

Another Packers touchdown as I was teasing the above article. Packers 31 – Vikings 7

Speaking of Swihart, Baseball Instinct published a wonderful review of the catchers selected in the 2011 MLB Draft.

If you’ve been scoring at home, it’s still 31-7 but Green Bay is about to score again … not a good year for the Vikings or Chiefs to say the least.
