Entering the offseason, the future of the Chicago White Sox was in question. Would the club look to keep add a few key pieces and make another run at an American League Central crown? Or would Chicago part ways with veteran players in favor of a youth movement? It appears that it will be the latter for the White Sox, as Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com is reporting the club is in full-blown “rebuilding” mode.
The White Sox made their first trade of the winter yesterday, shipping closer Sergio Santos to the Blue Jays for starting pitching prospect Nestor Molina.
While talking with reporters following the Santos trade, White Sox general manager Ken Williams said that Chicago has entered “the start of a rebuilding”.
According to Knobler, if the White Sox can “get what they want” on the trade market, players such as John Danks, Gavin Floyd, Carlos Quentin and even Gordon Beckham will all “be gone by opening day”.
Danks, Floyd and Quentin have all had their names tied to numerous teams this offseason, and the rumors only figure to flow now that it appears the White Sox will attempt to blow things up. It had already been reported that Williams is seeking “big return” for Danks and Floyd, but yesterday Buster Olney of ESPN tweeted that Williams will be looking for an “Ubaldo Jimenez package” for Danks.
