It’s Thursday of Winter Meetings week and that means one thing. It’s Rule 5 Draft Time. While it may not seem like a big deal to most, some extremely big names have been involved in Rule 5 Draft selections. All-Stars such as Jose Bautista, Johan Santana, Josh Hamilton, Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth and Dan Uggla have all been selected over the years. Click through to take a look at the 2011 Rule 5 Draft results.
Just to recap, if a player is selected in the Rule 5 Draft, they must remain on the selecting team’s 25-man major league roster for the entire season following the draft. If the team does not keep said player on their 25-man roster for the entire season following the draft, the player will be offered back to his original team. Once the player has spent an entire season on a club’s major league roster, they will return to a ‘normal’ player status.
