Howie Kendrick, Los Angeles Angels Agree to Four-Year Contract

The Los Angeles Angels can remove another to-do from their offseason list.  Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the Angels have reached an agreement with All-Star second baseman Howie Kendrick on a four-year contract.  USA Today’s Bob Nightengale adds that Kendrick’s new deal, which is still pending a physical, is believed to be worth $33.5 million.

Entering the offseason, the Angels had hoped to reach long-term agreements with several of their young players, one being the 28-year-old Kendrick.  Earlier last week the club opened talks with Kendrick and fellow infielder Erick Aybar.

Last season for the Angels, Kendrick hit at a clip of .285/.338/.464 with 18 home runs, 30 doubles and 86 runs scored.  This production earned Kendrick his first All-Star appearance.

Kendrick was drafted by the Angels in the 10th round of the 2002 MLB Draft, and the second baseman has spent the past six seasons playing at the major league level.  Over that time, Kendrick has posted a career line of .292/.329/.434 while primarily playing second base for the Angels.  Kendrick has also manned first base, left and center field and third base for LA.
