The Texas Rangers rewarded manager Ron Washington for leading the club to consecutive American League pennants yesterday, as the team announced it had reached a two-year contract extension with the skipper.  Washington is now signed through the 2014 season.

Washington took over the Rangers before the 2007 season, leading the club to a 75-87 record.  Washington built upon that win total over each of the next five seasons, culminating in 90 and 96 win campaigns in 2010-11.  Each year the Rangers made it to the World Series, ultimately finishing runner-up to the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals.

2010 marked the first time Texas had reached the playoffs since 1999 and the first World Series appearance in franchise history.  Washington owns a career win-loss mark of 427-383 over his five seasons in Texas, good for a winning percentage of .527.

Washington enters the 2012 season as the third-longest-tenured skipper in Rangers history, having managed 810 games.  Wash only trails Bobby Valentine (1186 games from 1985-92) and Johnny Oates (983 games from 1995-2001).
