It appears that the Jorge Soler sweepstakes has the potential to keep us just as entertained as did the bidding for fellow Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes. A pair of financial powerhouses, the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies, have joined the race for Soler, which earlier this week was reportedly led by the Chicago Cubs. Regardless of who’s leading at the moment, the Soler situation has one reporter anticipating that “this will get expensive”.
Yesterday we found that several teams remain in on the bidding for Soler. The Yankees and Phillies were named as potential suitors, and the day ended with their interest being characterized as serious.
Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports tweeted last night that the Yankees and Phillies are the two teams “in hardest” on Soler. Passan ended his tweet by speculating that the bidding for Soler “will get expensive”.
The Miami Marlins were initially said to have interest in the outfielder, but team president David Samson said otherwise during an interview with 790 the Ticket. The Cubs were listed as the favorite to sign Soler earlier this week, but nothing new was reported regarding the club yesterday.
Beyond the Marlins, Cubs, Yankees and Phillies, the Blue Jays, Orioles, White Sox and Red Sox are being listed as other teams interested in Soler.
