Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter Luke Scott was pulled from yesterday’s contest against the New York Yankees in the third inning. According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Scott experienced tightness in his left hamstring which resulted in the removal. The Rays are listing Scott as day-to-day.
Initially there was concern that Scott had re-injured his shoulder, an injury that caused him to miss much of last season. Scott required shoulder surgery last year and the ailment turned him into a shell of his former self for the Orioles in 2011, ultimately resulting in his release.
Luckily for Rays fans, Scott is instead dealing with a hamstring issue. With the listing of day-to-day, Topkin expects the Rays to sit Scott for a few games before having him rejoin the regular lineup. It doesn’t appear that a trip to the disabled list will be necessary.
Scott appeared in each of Tampa Bay’s first three contests. The 33-year-old got the start Saturday and went 3-4 with a double.
